Walther Berthold Raster (29 August 1875 - 13 January 1944) was an American engineer and inventor. Raster was born in Chicago on 29 August 1875, the son of German-American Editor Hermann Raster.〔(''Inventory of the Hermann Raster Papers, 1849-1940, bulk 1860-1891'' ) (The Newberry Library, 2007)〕 In 1906, Raster founded the ''Justrite Manufacturing Company'' with Frederick Becker. The company developed, patented and produced industrial safety and waste storage equipment.〔(''Beneath the Surface: Inventors and Marketeers of the Miner's Carbide Light'' ) by Dave Thorpe (Bergamot Books, 2010)〕 Justrite became the largest manufacturer of miners' lamps in the US. Raster patented a number of inventions, including a series of receptacles for oil waste.〔(US Patent US4951324 ) (13 November 1901)〕 He died on 13 January 1944. ==References==
